Repeal of ‘Carbon Tax’ legislation sees savings for customers

01 August 2014

Power and Water Corporation and Jacana Energy propose to implement the removal of the ‘carbon tax’ from pricing from 1 August 2014, with the tariff changes backdated to 1 July 2014.

Those customers who receive a bill in July 2014 will still have the ‘carbon tax’ component included. All customers will be refunded this component as soon as practicable and this will appear as a credit on their bill.

Contract customers are billed in arrears and their bill will have the ‘carbon tax’ component removed.

In the case of prepaid customers, the tariff is manually programmed into the meter so a credit will be applied to the meter as the tariff update is rolled out.

The ‘carbon tax’ component of customers’ bills will vary. For example:
  • Small average business - $63.75 per month
  • Large average family - $19.53 per month
  • Small average family - $8.85 per month
  • Average remote household - $7.90 per month
Power and Water Corporation and Jacana Energy are developing an online calculator to allow customers to calculate the savings they will get from the ‘carbon tax’ removal.
