Jacana Energy seals a great energy partnership with Defence31 July 2015
Jacana Energy and the Department of Defence have signed a three year contract for the supply of electricity to large Northern Territory Defence bases.
The Department of Defence uses 99GWh of electricity per annum, or 5% of the Northern Territory’s total electricity consumption. The contract is valued in the tens of millions of dollars and will be serviced by Jacana Energy’s Darwin based team. It is enough energy to power 11,000 average sized Darwin homes
Deputy Chief Minister Willem Westra van Holthe officiated at the contract signing ceremony held at the Larrakeyah Naval Base, along with Department of Defence’s Acting Head Defence Support Operations, Commodore Jaimie Hatcher.
‘It is pleasing to see that Jacana Energy has maintained and excelled in its strong customer focus since structural separation,’ Minister Westra van Holthe said.
‘Jacana Energy has worked hard at retaining the Department of Defence as a major customer, winning the contract through a rigorous tender process up against strong competition from rival retailers.’
Defence’s acting head of defence support operations Commodore Jaimie Hatcher said one of the key factors in re-signing was the reliability of the service.
‘While we have redundant systems on bases, continuity and reliability of supply is critical. The ability to manage our energy use and reduce our consumption is important and we are delighted by the reliability,’ he said.
Jacana Energy CEO Stuart Pearce said ‘Jacana Energy and Department of Defence have a strong partnership in the Northern Territory and we’re pleased to be continuing this.
The contract is proof that we can compete on price. We’ve retained the account against other interstate retailers,’ he added.
Jacana Energy looks forward to working with Defence on joint initiatives to help reduce consumption, not only for the bases but also the Defence personnel who are our residential customers.
