Removal of electricity subsidy for Tranche 4 commercial customers in the Darwin-Katherine region.
06 August 2015On 1 August, The NT Government removed the electricity subsidy provided to Darwin – Katherine based business customers using between 750MWh and 2GWh of electricity per year (i.e. commercial customers deemed Tranche 4 Constrained Tariff).
The removal of the subsidy is consistent with the NT Government’s objective to increase the competition in the electricity retail market. This decision affects a relatively small number of Jacana Energy business customers in the Darwin – Katherine region only.
The removal of the subsidy does not affect electricity prices paid by:
- residential customers
- small commercial customers using less than 750MWh per year
- commercial customers in Alice Springs or Tennant Creek
- large customers on negotiated contracts
Customers affected by the removal of the subsidy should already have received information from Jacana Energy on the impact of this change to their annual bill. In some cases, Jacana Energy is actually able to lower the cost of annual electricity due to new commercial arrangements we have recently secured.
Depending on their electricity consumption per annum, affected business customers will all move to a default commercial tariff, or negotiate a commercial contract with Jacana Energy or another licenced retailer.
Jacana Energy supply over 82,000 Territory homes and businesses and are the only NT based retailer, with a local and experienced Account Management team to support our large business users with their unique needs.
Business customers needing clarifications are encouraged to email businesscustomers@jacanaenergy.com.au or phone Marie-Louise Pearson, Manager Commercial & Industrial on 08 8985 7224 to discuss their options.
