In some circumstances, you may need a licensed electrician to provide a certificate of compliance.
This confirms the electrical work completed meets all the necessary regulatory requirements and is safe to connect to the electricity network.
Examples where you need a certificate of compliance include:
- reconnecting a property after a natural disaster (cyclone, fire or flood)
- building a new property
- making major modifications to an existing property
- installing solar panels.
How to get a certificate of compliance
- Step 1: Call your NT-licensed electrician to inspect your property and issue the Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for Electrical Safety.
- Step 2: Once you have the certificate of compliance, inform Power and Water Corporation of this by calling 1800 245 092.
Power and Water Corporation will need to sight the certificate either via email or in person (usually by leaving the certificate in the meter box). They will then send someone out to connect or reconnect your power.
If you’ve built a new property or completed major works, contact Jacana Energy to set up an account.
