Meters
Electricity meters are managed by the network provider, Power and Water Corporation.
Old mechanical meters are nearing end of life, and Power and Water Corporation is replacing these with smart meters. Read more about the smart meter upgrade on the Power and Water Corporation website.
Urban and rural properties
The power meter is usually located in a metal box on the front or side of your house.
If you live in a unit, you may have to ask your body corporate where to find the meter. Rural consumers will usually find the power meter in a metal box on a pole at the front of their property.
Remote properties
The power meter is in a metal box on the front or side of your house or a pole at the front of your property.
Commercial properties
The power meter is usually located in a common area or near the entrance.
Some neighbouring commercial customers cluster the meters together in an easily accessible common area.
Smart meters
Electronic interval (smart) meters record your usage every 15 minutes and saves it in its memory. The network provider can read your meter data wirelessly and then provide it to Jacana Energy to issue your bill.
If you have a smart meter, you will receive monthly bills in most cases.
Read more about smart meters on the Power and Water Corporation website.
Basic meters
These meters measure total usage over time and require a meter reader to visit your property to read the meter data. If you have a basic meter, you are responsible for ensuring clear access to the meter.
If you have a basic meter, you will receive quarterly bills in most cases.
Read more about basic meters on the Power and Water Corporation website.
Prepayment meters
Power is paid for as used with a prepaid metre. No connection fees, no bill surprises, and use as much or as little electricity as needed.
