How to read your bill - Business

Understanding your bill is the first step to reducing your electricity costs.

We've created a handy guide to make it easy for you to read your bill.

2 Your account summary

Displays the billing period, any amount owing from your last bill, new charges for this billing period, and the total due.

Average daily cost – Your electricity charges for usage during the billing period divided by the number of days in the period. 

Greenhouse gas emissions – Amount of CO2 emitted by your business property during the billing period.

Your average daily usage – Displays the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh) you used on average per day during this billing period, and compared to the same time last year and the previous 3 billing periods. 

5 Invoice details

Account number – Your unique identifier for your Jacana Energy account.

Pricing plan – The pricing type that applies to your property.

Tax invoice – The invoice number for this bill.

Meter read type – Shows if your meter has been read (actual) or your usage has been estimated.

Different ways you can pay your bill and reference numbers to use when doing this.


 

7 Your service details

Service address – The address of your property.

NMI – National Meter Identification number, unique to your meter.

Meter number – Your meter’s serial number.

Meter read date – When your meter was read. 

Next approximate meter read date – When your meter is likely to be read next. Please ensure easy access to your property around this time.

8 Transactions summary since your last bill

Transactions

  • Opening balance – Charges from your previous bill.
  • Payments received – All payments you have made since your last bill was issued.

Balance brought forward – Shows any amount owing from your last bill.

New charges – New charges for this bill.

Total charges – Includes both new charges for this bill and any previous amount owing from the last bill.

9 How we have worked out your bill

Electricity charges

  • Meter read type – If your meter was read (actual) or your usage was estimated.
  • Tariff summary – The name of the rates applied to your property.
  • Usage supplied – The amount of electricity you have used for this billing period in kilowatt-hours (kWh). This calculated by subtracting the previous meter read from the current meter read.
  • Solar buy back – The amount of excess electricity your solar panels generated and sent back to the power grid, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
  • Unit price – The rate in dollars that applies per kilowatt-hour.
  • Total cost – Your total usage multiplied by the unit price. How much you owe for the electricity you have used during the period, as registered by your meter.

Supply charges – This is a fixed charge applied per day which covers the cost of supplying electricity to your property.

Total charges – The sum of all charges, discounts and adjustments.

12 Recipient created tax invoice

Because your business is registered for GST, we generate this tax invoice on your behalf for the solar energy you sell back to us.

13 RCTI transaction

Details the transactions in the recipient created tax invoice.

  • RCTI transaction – The pricing type that applies to the solar we are buying from you.
  • Toal usage – The amount of excess solar in kilowatt-hours (kWh) you generated and sent back to the power grid, which was then bought by Jacana Energy.
  • Unit price – The rate in dollars that applies per kilowatt-hour of solar energy.
  • Total cost – The total amount of solar fed back into the grid multiplied by the unit price. This is the amount Jacana Energy pays to buy your excess solar for the billing period.
