How does solar work?
How does solar save you money?
Getting your solar system up and running
We offer a feed-in tariff (FiT) for extra electricity sent back to the grid from your rooftop solar system. FiTs are applied as a credit to save you money on your bill. Our FiTs apply to residential customers and businesses:
- with a solar PV system less than 30kVA; and
- consuming less than 750 megawatt hours per year.
View the solar feed-in tariffs webpage for more information.
Step 1) Apply to connect to the grid
Connection of all rooftop solar systems and battery systems (including where altering an existing system) are subject to the technical requirements and approval of your network provider, Power and Water Corporation.
Please refer to their website for the application process to install and connect rooftop solar and battery systems. Approval to export electricity into the grid is not guaranteed and is subject to the technical assessment undertaken by Power and Water.
Step 2) Request the feed-in-tariff
Jacana Energy is responsible for assessing the eligibility of the application for a feed-in-tariff. Once the solar installation has been completed at your premise, please contact us to request a tariff change. You can call us on 1800 522 262 or request the tariff change in writing at customercare@jacanaenergy.com.au
Step 3) Check the applicable rate on your bill
You will see the rate applied to your account (standard) on your next bill. Please note that once the feed-in tariff is applied to your account, and you start receiving a payment for the electricity you export into the grid, you are agreeing to our Power Purchase Terms & Conditions.
View the solar feed-in tariffs webpage for more information.
You can choose to install a battery with your rooftop solar. The battery will charge from any extra solar you produce, so you can use it when solar production is low.
If you're a Northern Territory (NT) homeowner, business or a not-for-profit organisation, you can apply for a grant to buy and install batteries and inverters. Visit the Home and Business Battery Scheme webpage for more information.
The cost of solar PV systems vary depending on the type and size of the panels installed. Your solar installer will be able to give you advice around what type will best suit your property and needs. Investing in solar may cost you at first, but it can help you save money in the long run.
When you receive a feed-in tariff from us, you are agreeing to our power purchase agreement.
